Sager Place Street Art Project has been completed

The Sager Place Street Art Project is now complete!

As selected by the Arts Advisory Committee, this mural was designed and installed on the southern wall of 8 Sager Place (Fox and Bird Cafe), East Ryde by artist Nick Fintan. Community consultation workshops were planned to take place with local residents, businesses and relevant stakeholders, however due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the consultation was undertaken online.

The mural features a number of elements identified throughout the consultation.

  • The ballet dancer is a reference to Peggy Sager (namesake of Sager Place).
  • The flora element is a Jacaranda blossom. Jacaranda's were mentioned in some of the community feedback as highlights of the local plant life.
  • The rainbow lorikeet was also highlighted several times as a highlight of the local wildlife.
  • The semi-circle pattern that runs across design 1 and 3 is a reference to the 'dress circle estate' - the name given to the street design when it was built in the 1960's.

At the time of installation, the retaining wall around the garden was too damp for successful painting. Nick will return in approximately September (when the weather warms up) to complete this small section of wall.

This project was completed through the 2019/20 Street Art project.
