An Extraordinary Council Meeting will be held on Tuesday 10 June 2025 in the Council Chambers, Level 1A, 1 Pope Street, Ryde and online commencing at 6.00pm.
The City of Ryde is committed to upholding the Disability Discrimination Act (DDA) for everyone in Australia against discrimination based on disability. The Act sets out to make all public facilities accessible to people with a disability.
As part of this commitment, Council’s objective is to investigate and upgrade up to 500 bus stop sites across the LGA to ensure DDA compliance in accordance with the Australian Human Rights Commission guidelines, Disability Standards for Accessible Public Transport and relevant Australian Standards. The works are undertaken in consultation and liaison with Busways NSW, Transport for New South Wales, and other relevant authorities.
Council is undertaking detailed engineering design and investigations concurrently with staged construction work to deliver the bus stop compliance works. Proposed DDA upgrades at each site generally involve a combination of some of the following:
All allocated sites have been investigated and coordinated with relevant internal and external stakeholders.
As of February 2025, 57 sites have been delivered. 129 sites have been designed. 146 sites are in consultation with Busways NSW and TFNSW.
Full project completion and delivery is expected by the end of 2027.
