There are a number of local organisations actively seeking people who are keen to donate their time and skills in gardening, shopping, driving, home visits and much more. Volunteer Roles

Achieve Australia

Buddy Volunteer - to be a ‘buddy’ for people with disability and spending time with them doing activities such as seeing a movie, going out for lunch or for coffee, bowling, fishing, outings and walking etc. This role is a great opportunity volunteers who have an interest in working with people with disability, to provide companionship and add value to their lives.

Day Programs Volunteer - to share your skills and interests in art, craft, cooking, sewing, knitting, dancing and photography etc. that would be benefit to the participants in the day program.

Fabric & Needlecraft Volunteer - to sort, pack, price and sell fabric and needlecraft at A Unique Social Enterprise: Fabric, Needlecraft and more…

Catholic Community Services | Ryde area 

Activities Assistant - Helpers are needed to assist at Korean Day Centre for older people on Monday at Meadowbank and Wednesday at Eastwood. 

Community Link Program - It is a telephone support service for older people who live alone. Volunteers will make a regular 5 minute telephone call each week to provide social contact and a safety check for an older person or a person who is socially isolated.

Christian Community Aid | Eastwood

Driver - to transport clients to and from medical appointments

Volunteer Visitor - visit clients, provide companionship

Shopping Volunteer - assist individual clients with shopping

Bus Shopping Volunteer - to assist clients on/off bus and with shopping

Bus Drivers - transport clients to CCAS programs

Bus Outing Assistant - assist clients on/off bus

Volunteer Driver/Volunteer Runner - to deliver Meals on Wheels

City of Ryde

Library Volunteers - enthusiastic volunteers for various roles including Children's Activity Assistants and Musical Morning Tea Assistants from March until November. Bushcare Volunteers - to assist in the rehabilitation, management and maintenance of remnant urban bushland areas within the City of Ryde. Activities include: weed removal & control, seed collection and propagation, site assessment, planning and monitoring, fauna and flora management.

Compeer | Northern Sydney

Friendship Volunteers - to provide friendship to people who are lonely and living with a mental illness in the community.

Easy Care Gardening Inc. | Ryde area

Gardeners - creating low maintenance gardens, and general gardening duties for frail aged and disabled pensioners.

Gig Buddies Sydney | Ryde area

Gig Buddy - looking for volunteers who like music, going to live events and having fun! Based on mutual interests and geographic location, the organisation will pair up a volunteer with a suitable gig buddy to attend events together.

 

Volunteers of all ages, male or female are welcome.

Hunters Hill Ryde Community Services | Gladesville

Community Visiting Scheme - Visit people living in aged care homes that are socially isolated or lonely & would benefit from a friendly visitor.

Volunteer Visiting Service - Visit elderly people or person with a disability in their own home in the community who are socially isolated or lonely & would benefit from a friendly visitor.

Community Bus Driving - Driving clients and staff on social bus outings to various locations across Sydney. LR license required.

Meals on Wheels - Deliver nutritious meals to frail aged or people with a disability living in Hunters Hill and parts of Ryde LGA. Must have current license, have access to a car with Comprehensive Third Party Insurance and be available weekday mornings.

North Ryde Community Aid & Information Centre | North Ryde

Driver - to take frail elderly to medical appointments using your own car.

Activities Program Helper - to assist with preparing lunch/morning tea and help program Coordinator with activities designed for clients.

Linen Service Assistant - to deliver clean linen, make beds and help the less physically capable not have to deal with the chore of bed changing and sheet laundering

Shopping Volunteer - to take frail elderly to shop for groceries using your own car. To provide companionship to client and help in reaching for items on the top shelf, pushing trolley and escorting clients safely for the shopping trips.  

Royal Rehab | Putney

Recreational Activities Volunteer - to assist Recreational Therapist to provide activity programs to increase therapy to improve cognitive, social and physical abilities of clients with brain injuries.

Gardening Volunteer - to assist in setting up and maintaining a garden at Royal Rehab and accommodation for clients.

Ryde Hunters Hill Community Transport Inc | Gladesville

Bus Assistant - Assistant for our social outing bus trips.  Assist passengers on and off the bus and at venues, assist driver as requested.
Either male or female - 8.30 am - 4 pm approximately.

Medical Appointment Driver - To convey passengers safely to and from destinations for medical or other personal appointments.  Day/s & hours flexible.

Driver - Driver with own vehicle for Monday/Thursday/Friday
1 hr each day (11.30 am - 12.30 pm) job share considered.

Side By Side Advocacy | West Ryde

Volunteer Board Members - to advocate for people with intellectual disability across 10 LGA's in the northern part of Sydney. Volunteers who have experience in disability, either through professional personal or family connections and are passionate about social justice and the rights of people with disability.

Full training/orientation will be given to the right person(s) to be able to contribute fully to the board.

The Smith Family

English Tutor - After 15 hours of online training the tutor (male or female) will be ready to be match with a student to teach English at a very basic level for one to two hours per week in the student’s home, library, coffee shop etc. The volunteer will be asked to commit for a minimum of 6 months and there is no limit to the time that the tutor can stay with the same student. The matching is done taking into account a few factors such as gender, geography, age and other considerations.

Qualify teachers and bi-lingual speakers are welcome but it is not a requirement.
