The annual Granny Smith Festival celebrates the life and legacy of one of our district’s most famous citizens, Maria Ann Smith – aka Granny Smith – who, back in 1868, ‘accidentally’ grew the first batch of little green apples that bear her name and are now grown all over the world.
A record crowd estimated at around 85,000 flocked to the annual Granny Smith Festival at Eastwood on Saturday 17 October 2009.
The perfect weather contributed to the carnival atmosphere where children delighted at the baby animal farm or squealed with delight on the carnival rides.
Music and entertainment of all kinds filled the air and The Core rocked for young people.
Showbags, arts and crafts, great bargains and delicious foods from all over the world added to the party atmosphere and in the evening the The Eagles tribute concert followed by the fireworks spectacular wrapped up a perfect day.
We look forward to seeing you next year when the Granny Smith Festival turns 25!
