13 September

City of Ryde is excited to officially begin the countdown for the 2023 Granny Smith Festival this week, unveiling a fantastic program of fun and entertainment that will take place in the heart of Eastwood on Saturday 21 October from 9.00am to 8.30pm.

The Granny Smith Festival has a well-earned reputation as one of Sydney’s biggest and best street festivals and this year will be no different, with a brilliant day that begins with the famous parade and ends with a special performance by pop star Ricki-Lee and a dazzling fireworks finale.

In between, there will be a kids show and meet and greet with JJ from CoComelon, a K-Pop Dance Competition on the K-Town Madang Stage, a Youth Zone for young people aged 12 to 24 to enjoy music and other great free activities, carnival fun and camel rides on the oval, and much more.

It promises to be a wonderful day out for the whole family, and I encourage you to mark it down in your diaries as a must-see event.

Visit the Granny Smith Festival page where you will be able to take a look at all of the many festival highlights and creatively plan your day.

Macquarie University’s Faculty of Arts is hosting a one-off Arts after Dark event on Thursday 14 September at the Mason Theatre exploring the fascinating world of AI and how humans can avoid its pitfalls while also leveraging its benefits.

Hosted by award-winning BBC foreign correspondent Peter Greste, the evening will begin with Dr Richard Savery showcasing his astonishing creation – the drumming, rapping robot Keirzo – before leading into a riveting discussion with academics and industry representatives.

It promises to be a fun-filled day of activities, craft, food and drinks, with great kids’ entertainment including a mechanical bull ride, cute farm animals, a bouncing castle and face painting.

Plus, everyone will be able to enjoy the coffee lounge and sausage sizzle.
