Donation to assist earthquake victims

At City of Ryde’s International Women’s Day forum held last Saturday, Council presented a cheque to the Armenian Relief Society for $10,000. The funds will assist in the humanitarian efforts for those affected by the 6 February 2023 earthquake, which has devastated parts of Turkey and north-eastern Syria.

At our 28 February 2023 Council meeting, Council also held a minute’s silence to acknowledge the tragic loss of life and those injured in the earthquake and I wish to pass on my condolences to all those affected.

Eastwood postal services update

At a Council meeting held on 28 February 2023, Council voted to write to Australia Post objecting to their decision to close the full-service post office at 102 Rowe Street in Eastwood on 10 March 2023. Council will also write to the Federal Member for Bennelong and the Federal Communications Minister seeking their intervention to stop the removal of the Eastwood Post Office.

In the interim, Council and Australia Post have been working together to determine an appropriate location to install 24/7 parcel lockers to improve access to postal services for the Eastwood community.

It has been confirmed that the lockers will be installed within Council’s Rowe Street East carpark at 53-71 Rowe Street in Eastwood in an easily accessible location.

Further details, including a timeframe for installation of the parcel lockers, will be provided in due course.

Household Chemical Cleanout

Don't throw household chemicals and electronic items in the garbage, incinerator, down drains or sinks, down toilets or outside in the gully traps - they can harm your family and our environment.

Dispose of your old chemicals safely by taking them to the free Household Chemical CleanOut drop-off being held this Saturday 25 March from 9.00am - 3.30pm at Meadowbank Park Netball Courts car park.

This year Council will also be trialling an e-waste drop-off in combination with the NSW EPA Household Chemical Cleanout event.
