City of Ryde Council meeting summary - 24 May 2022

Council held its latest Ordinary meeting on 24 May 2022. The following is a summary of the outcomes from the meeting:

Anzac Park Masterplan adopted

Council adopted the Anzac Park Masterplan which seeks to increase recreation opportunities at the West Ryde park to better meet the needs of the growing community. Improvements contained in the masterplan include new and improved open spaces, fitness equipment, picnic shelters and barbecue facilities, increased tree canopy cover as well as a number of inclusive design features. The existing ANZAC memorial will also be updated. 

Draft Disability Inclusion Action Plan 2022 – 2026 endorsed

The City of Ryde Draft Disability Inclusion Action Plan (DIAP) 2022 – 2026 was endorsed by Council. The DIAP outlines Council’s central role in fostering inclusion through providing accessible and inclusive public spaces, infrastructure, services and information, while also creating opportunities for all people to participate in community life. The DIAP will be placed on public exhibition for 28 days. 

Proposal to extend lighting at Meadowbank Skate Park deferred 

A proposal to extend the hours for the lighting of the Meadowbank Skate Park between May and August has been deferred to allow for further consultation with residents and users. 

2022 City of Ryde Community Grants – Round one 

More than $155,000 was allocated to 27 community organisations as part of round one of the 2022 City of Ryde Community Grants Program. 

Variations to development standards under clause 4.6 of Ryde Local Environmental Plan 2014 

A report detailing three development applications approved with a Clause 4.6 variation between 1 January and 31 March 2022 was received and noted. 

Traffic and parking matters

Council endorsed the Ryde Traffic Committee recommendations from the meeting held on April 2022, with one amendment that resulted in Council resolving to remove the existing bus stop/bus zone outside 91 Bowden Street, Ryde. 

Road safety

Traffic and road safety issues at the intersection of Coxs Road and Blenheim Road in North Ryde, Goulding Road and Twin Road in North Ryde, as well as Charles Street (outside St Charles Catholic Primary School) in Ryde will be investigated by Council staff. 

Accessible pathway proposed

Council staff will investigate whether an accessible pathway can be installed that will connect Morrison Road to Bill Mitchell Park in Tennyson Point.

The next Ordinary Council meeting is scheduled to take place on Tuesday 28 June 2022.
