Artist Talk: Identity, Multiculturalism and My Watercolour Journey
Join artist Richard Chao at Ryde library as he delves into the theme of Identity, a subject close to his heart and the title of one of his solo exhibitions. Drawing from his personal experience of arriving in Australia, Richard will share how the country’s vibrant multicultural landscape profoundly inspired his work. This rich diversity has shaped his watercolour portraiture, which features people from a wide range of cultural backgrounds, including Indigenous Australians. Many of his portraits have earned international recognition. Throughout the talk, Richard will also explore how art can serve as a powerful bridge between cultures, expressing both personal and shared identities.

欢迎参加艺术家晁铁军（Richard Chao）的讲座。他将围绕“身份认同 (Identity)“ 这一对他意义深远的主题展开分享 - 这也是他其中一场个人画展的标题。
晁老师将分享他初到澳大利亚的亲身经历，以及这个充满活力的多元文化社会如何深刻地启发了他的创作。他的水彩人物肖像受多元文化熏陶，描绘了来自各类文化背景的人物，包括澳大利亚原住民。
他的多幅肖像作品在国际上获得高度认可，展现出艺术与文化交汇的独特魅力。
在此次讲座中，晁老师还将探讨艺术如何成为连接不同文化的桥梁，以及个体与集体之间的认同与归属。本次讲座将以普通话 进行, 与Rochfort画廊合作举办。

About the Artist
Richard (Tiejun) Chao is a Sydney-based watercolor artist with a Master's degree in Oil Painting. He is the Master Member of IWS (International Watercolor Society), signature Member of GAWA (Global Association of Watercolor Artists), and Member of NWS (National Watercolor Society of America)
A highly esteemed watercolorist with solo and group exhibitions across Europe, the USA, Asia, and Australia. Featured artist by the renowned French journal "The Art of Watercolor". Conducts watercolor demonstrations, workshops, and lectures worldwide and serves as a judge for international art exhibitions. Winner of over 70 major international watercolor awards, including the First Prize at the International Watercolor Masters (UK), the A. J. Casson Award (First Place) at the 96th and 99th Exhibitions of the CSPWC (Canada), the Mary Lind Award (Top Three) at NWS Member Exhibition (USA), Golden Brush (First Prize) at International Watercolor Competition (Poland), Second Place at the 2nd IWS India Biennale.
