Community Consultation Report - New Park at 2 Thistle Street Ryde

Published on 30 April 2024

In 2018, the NSW Government announced that the former Meadowbank Public School site at 2 Thistle Street, Ryde will be converted into a new park for the community to enjoy.

Earlier this year, the City of Ryde engaged with the local community to find out what they would like to see in this new park to help guide the NSW Government's decision making.

Council undertook community consultation from Monday 5 February 2024 to Sunday 18 February 2024. During this time, 488 comments were received from the community with 474 from the online survey and 8 email submissions. There were 25 attendees at the drop-in sessions, with 13 providing comments.

Survey respondents identified multipurpose courts, an amenities building and a children’s playground as the most important potential features of the new park, while drop-in session dotmocracy participants focused on a refurbished school hall and multipurpose courts.

Other top features and considerations noted by respondents included pickleball courts, the need and community benefits of parks, a dog off-leash area, parking considerations, basketball courts, retaining or use of a community hall, provision of shaded/sheltered spaces, and the inclusion of trees, greenery and gardens.

Council thanks the community for sharing their views and suggestions. The feedback received from this consultation was shared with School Infrastructure NSW who are ultimately responsible for any work that occurs on the site.
