The Macquarie Park corridor has experienced significant growth in recent years and is expected to double in floor space and worker numbers by 2031. Congestion is an issue in the area and is expected to increase with growth. The parking provisions in the area will play a decisive role in managing this congestion by influencing the mode of transport that workers, students and visitors use to get to Macquarie Park.

To respond to the traffic, parking and congestion issues in Macquarie Park, Council is proposing two parking changes. The first being a change to the number of on-site car spaces required by the planning controls and the other being changes to on-street parking meter fees.

To explain these changes, Council will be hosting two information sessions. At each session you can learn more about the proposed changes to parking controls and also the proposed changes to the on-street parking meter fees. Over the two hour period there will be a presentation and Q&A with subject matter experts. If you are unable to attend these sessions, the information from the sessions will be made available on this webpage. To keep informed you can subscribe to this project at the bottom of this page.

How do I have my say?
Following the information sessions, Council welcomes your feedback on one or both of the proposed changes to parking in Macquarie Park. Please note that there will be a formal exhibition period for each proposal that will occur separately at different times (see next steps). For each of the proposed parking changes all submissions provided prior to, and during these formal exhibition periods will be collated in a report prepared for Council’s consideration.

Next Steps
Should Council support the changes to the Planning Controls, the Planning Proposal will be forwarded to the Department of Planning and Environment for a Gateway determination. If accepted, the Planning Proposal will be placed on formal exhibition for comment. It is anticipated that this will occur later in the year.

Your feedback will be considered as part of these exhibition processes.

On-Street Parking Meters

The changes to the on-street parking meter fees aim to ensure a fairer and more consistent fee structure where short term stays pay the same hourly rate as long term stays. This will reduce the incentive to stay long hours and allow for other workers to use these spaces. It will also encourage workers to reassess their transport options and potentially move onto public transport thereby reducing traffic congestion in Macquarie Park.

What are the existing on–street parking meter fees?
$2.50 per hour with 12P in some locations (meaning all day parking permitted) at a capped rate of $11.00.

There are approximately 1300 on street parking spaces, with approximately 500 of these being 12 hour parking areas.
