Proposed Parking Controls - West Ryde

Consultation closed on 17 June 2018

The City of Ryde has received requests from local West Ryde residents to address parking congestion in their street.

To alleviate these parking congestion issues, Council is proposing two options:

  • Option 1 – Install a Resident Parking Scheme in your street
  • Option 2 – Install restricted timed parking in your street

WHAT IS A RESIDENT PARKING SCHEME (OPTION 1)?
A Resident Parking Scheme is when timed parking controls are installed in a street and eligible residential properties are provided a permit that exempts an eligible vehicle from these timed parking restrictions.

CAN I GET A PERMIT EXEMPTING ME FROM THE TIMED RESTRICTIONS?
Only if a Resident Parking Scheme (Option 1) is installed would each eligible residential property be entitled to one free visitor permit.

WHAT IS RESTRICTED TIMED PARKING (OPTION 2)?
Restricted timed parking is when timed parking controls are installed in a street. All vehicles parked in the street will be required to abide by the timed restrictions listed on the signs.

HOW WILL COUNCIL DETERMINE WHICH OPTION TO GO AHEAD?
For a Resident Parking Scheme (Option 1) to go ahead, 51% of the households in the street must be in support of the scheme. This means if there are 20 households in a street, 11 of those households must give their feedback to Council in support of a Resident Parking Scheme.

If we receive little or no feedback (less than 51% of the households in your street reply), regardless of the support, a Resident Parking Scheme won’t go ahead.

If a Resident Parking Scheme (Option 1) is not supported at 51% of the households in your street, then Council will consider the support for restricted timed parking (Option 2).
