Mural at Boronia Park

In 2021, the Beautiful Boronia Working Group was established by Hunters Hill Council to work with the local businesses and community to identify and implement placemaking opportunities in Boronia Park. The Working Group comprised representatives from both Hunters Hill Council and City of Ryde, as well as local business and community representatives.

The Working Group expressed a desire for a public art project in the centre to represent themes of ‘village’, ‘love’ and ‘creativity’.

Council staff engaged artist Lydia Morgan (AKA Squid Morgan) to design and install the artwork based on this brief. Ms. Morgan is an illustrator, artist and muralist based in Sydney. The final design was selected by a panel of Council staff, including Council’s Arts & Cultural Development Coordinator and members of the City Activation team.

The delivery of this project contributes to Council’s goal of creating a vibrant and liveable city. The installation improves the pedestrian experience and helps to create a sense of belonging, whilst improving perceptions of safety and deterring future incidents of graffiti.

The abstract, colourful artwork was installed in July 2022 and is now being enjoyed by the local community and visitors to the centre.
