Mayor's Community Message
4 June
RALC FEES AND CHARGES
I am pleased to report there will be no change to free entry to the Ryde Aquatic Leisure Centre (RALC) for Ryde resident pensioner concession holders in the 2025/26 financial year, after my Mayoral Minute on the matter was carried at the 27 May 2025 Council Meeting.
This important decision follows feedback from residents regarding the proposed changes to fees and charges at the RALC, particularly the suggestion to remove free entry for Ryde resident pensioner concession card holders.
The community response has been clear and heartfelt.
I’ve spoken with residents, taken phone calls, read emails, and listened to your concerns directly. One message came through loud and clear - this concession is highly valued, and the proposed change did not align with the community’s expectations.
I want to sincerely thank everyone who shared their views.
CIVIC CENTRE CONSULTATION
Over the last two months, I have been explaining Council’s new plan for the civic centre site at Top Ryde, which is a financially responsible solution to the existing ‘hole in the ground’ that will finally give us a much-needed civic centre and community hub.
In the second half of 2025 an Expression of Interest (EOI) campaign will go to market seeking a long-term lease of the 1 Devlin Street site, which could provide significant housing for the City and help to fund construction of the new civic centre at the adjoining 150-156 Blaxland Road.
The EOI is being prepared with the site planning controls in mind. These involve a mixed-use zoning, height control of between 21m and 72m, and no set Floor Space Ratio (FSR).
I want to assure you that thorough and open community consultation will be an essential part of the process before any decision is made on development at the two sites.
WORLD ENVIRONMENT DAY
Thursday 5 June is World Environment Day, giving us all a wonderful opportunity to think about and act upon the practical things we can do to help preserve our planet.
Council is hosting a diverse program over several weeks, including a range of workshops, events, and hands-on activities designed to inspire and empower the community to live more sustainably and care for our local environment.
Whether you're passionate about reducing waste, conserving water, protecting wildlife, or learning new sustainable skills, there is something for everyone.
