As part of the Eastwood Central project, the City of Ryde is planning to upgrade an existing unsignalised pedestrian crossing into a signalised pedestrian crossing at The Avenue, Eastwood.

Installation of the new crossing is to support and improve pedestrian safety in Eastwood.

What will the works include?

The works also will be completed in four stages as follows:

Stage A

  • Installation of temporary fencing, signage, water filled barriers
  • Installation of temporary pedestrian crossing
  • Removal of existing blister islands

Stage B & C

  • Demolition works
  • Pavement works
  • Installation of kerb and gutters and pedestrian islands
  • Traffic signal installation

Stage D

  • Landscaping works and signage
  • Replacement of asphalt wearing coarse
  • Installation of traffic loops
  • Line-marking works

Timing of works

Construction start: Mid to late February 2023
Expected completion: Late May 2023, weather permitting.

Works will primarily be carried out from Monday to Friday between the hours of 6.00am and 6.00pm, with some night works when required from 6.00pm to 6.00am.

Changed Conditions (Road closures and Parking)

Works are scheduled to be completed in four stages with full road closure to minimise interfaces of construction activities with the live traffic and pedestrian and improve safety.

Portable pedestrian lights and temporary pedestrian crossings will be in place to manage pedestrian movements safely.

For the duration of construction works, on-street parking spaces and an existing loading zone within the work zone at Rowe Street and The Avenue will be unavailable.

Business owners and visitors are advised to utilise alternative car parking spaces outside of the work area for the duration of the construction works.

The existing loading zone adjacent to Eastwood Arcade on Rowe Street must be utilised for all of the deliveries during the period of construction works.

Access to the shops and businesses will be maintained at all times.
