201806 - HYS - MREC - College St

Please note: Have your say on the change to trial closure College Street, Gladesville, is now extended until Sunday 1 July 2018. The proposal will now go to the September Traffic Committee Meeting.

A condition of consent associated with the Bunnings development at 461–495 Victoria Road, Gladesville required a trial full closure of College Street (west of Orient Street). This closure was to be implemented immediately prior to the commencement of the demolition works at the proposed Bunnings site. A condition of the Roads and Maritime Service was that this trial full road closure was to be reviewed to assess whether the trial closure is removed, modified or remains.

Therefore, Bunnings has prepared a traffic review of the trial closure with Council also commissioning an independent review of that report.

WHAT ARE THE RESULTS OF THE REVIEW?
The review has identified that the current trial full road closure has produced high levels of congestion along Frank Street, rat-running through private commercial premises and unsafe vehicular movements at the closure point.

WHAT IS THE SOLUTION PROPOSED?
It is proposed to convert the trial full road closure to a partial road closure permanently, to enable one-way eastbound movements only. This means that vehicles would be able to travel in the eastbound direction from Frank Street to College Street.

WHAT HAPPENS AFTER THE HAVE YOUR SAY PERIOD CLOSES?
This proposal and the results of the community consultation will go to the September Traffic Committee Meeting for a recommendation to be made.

The recommendation of the Traffic Committee will then go to the Works and Community Committee for a decision.

Please note that a final decision can be made at the Works and Community Committee Meeting or may be deferred for a decision to be made at the following Council Meeting.

Once Council has resolved the proposal, the applicant will be required to submit another application to modify the condition of consent that refers to the trial full closure of College Street. Therefore there may be no further changes depending on the determination of this application.

CAN I SPEAK AT THE COMMITTEE MEETINGS?
Yes, to speak at the Traffic Committee Meeting and/or the Works and Community Meeting you will need to fill out the ‘Request to Address Council or Committee Meeting’ form for each meeting you would like to speak at.

This form is available on our website www.ryde.nsw.gov.au/addressmeeting or you can contact our Customer Service Centre on 9952 8222 to be sent a hard copy.
