The draft Ryde Infrastructure Strategy (the Strategy) has been developed to articulate the infrastructure challenges faced by the local community and across Local and State Government, and to specify the actions required to meet those challenges. The Strategy was identified as a key priority of the Local Strategic Planning Statement (which sets Council’s overarching strategic planning vision).
Council already has a number of detailed plans and strategies that identify, prioritise, and plan for the delivery of new infrastructure; the Ryde Infrastructure Strategy draws on Council’s existing plans and strategies while also considering wider regional needs. It provides a strategic overview rather than a detailed list of infrastructure needs (the latter is within Council’s existing Delivery and Operational Plans(PDF, 3MB) and Council’s Development Contributions Plan).
The Strategy will inform Council’s assessment of Planning Proposals and Voluntary Planning Agreements, providing a clear articulation of the challenges that need to be met to ensure the impacts of any Planning Proposal can be managed appropriately. The Strategy will also assist in Council’s advocacy for ongoing State investment in the LGA, by providing the clear link between that investment and the ability of the LGA to help accommodate a fair share of the growing metropolitan population.
The draft Strategy is prepared in two parts.
- Part A of the draft Strategy defines the challenges in infrastructure delivery including the backlogs, stresses, and funding gaps.
- Part B of the Strategy sets out responses to Council’s infrastructure challenge.
The draft Ryde Infrastructure Strategy will be on public exhibition on Council’s website from 27 September to 26 October 2021.
