Are you ready for emergencies?

The last few years have shown us that emergencies such as storms, floods, heatwaves and bushfires can often happen without warning. These events can impact our families, jobs, finances and health if we are not prepared. The good news is we can plan ahead and become more resilient in the face of emergency situations.

During Emergency Ready Week from 19-25 September, City of Ryde is encouraging our community to take a few simple steps to help get prepared for possible future emergency situations.

  1. Download the Get Prepared App and create an emergency plan for yourself and your family, including who to contact and safe places to evacuate to, which you can refer to when needed.
  2. Get the contact details of your neighbours, particularly those that may be more vulnerable, including the elderly, disabled and people living alone, so you can help each other in times of need.
  3. Prepare an emergency kit with things you might need such as torches, batteries, a radio, bottled water, first aid kit and medications, to save yourself time and stress during emergency situations.
  4. Use the Climate Wise Communities Ready Check Tool to check your home for potential threats and take steps to rectify these issues.
  5. Sign up to the Home Waste and Sustainability Advisory Service for free advice on making your home more sustainable and resilient.

Visit Council’s Resilient Ryde website for a full list of what you can do to protect yourself and your property before, during and after storms, floods, heatwaves and bushfires.
