Possums

Ringtail possum sitting in a tree

Possums can enter roof voids through damaged tiles and eaves. When in the roof they can make noises at night and urinate and defecate on the ceiling causing stains and odours.

Possums are protected fauna and must not be harmed.

To prevent possums from getting into your roof, keep the roof in good repair. If a possum has made its home in your roof, you will need to take action to remove the possum from the roof and block off the access points to prevent the possum from re-entering. This is best done at night to prevent the possums being trapped inside the roof space  Where possible, provide them with alternative housing in the form of a nest-box, so they are not left homeless and do not try to re-enter your roof from another point.
