Battle of the Bands
The 2024 Battle of the Bands Ryde competition is for young people aged 12-24 years. This year the competition was held at Lachlan's Line Auditorium on 17 April, supporting young musicians wanting to showcase their talent!
Winners of the competition received a free professional recording session (mixed and mastered) with Katcha Music Studio valued at $2000. Runners received a share of $750 worth of gift vouchers at Mall Music Macquarie Centre.
2024 Winners
1st Place | Deaf Perception
Deaf Perception is rock/alternative band formed out of Ryde Secondary College in July 2022, ahead of the YouthRock Band Competition. Since then, they have been writing and releasing original music that explores a wide range of genres and fusion, such as our most recent song (rock and hardcore/bossa nova). They love performing live and putting a show on to share our songs to new audiences.

2nd Place | Rosemary
Indie Rock originals band formed from Big Music graduates. Together for a year and a half so far!. Folk and jazz vocal influences. Lead singer Charlie is a HSC Encore nominee and prolific songwriter headed to the Conservatorium of Music. The band previously won Riverview Battle of the Bands. First song Ghost if Us was self published this month with the band in studios in April to produce two more originals including fan favourite Planetary Motion. The band are all committed musicians and actively working to develop a music career together.

3rd Place | Freak
They have been playing together for about 3 and a half years, and shifted from covers to writing originals in 2022. They have drawn inspiration from bands such as Silverchair, Nirvana, Grinspoon and Green Day.
They have entered numerous band comps and won "Most Promising Original Song" at St. Josephs Band Comp in 2023.

Band that drew in the biggest Crowd | Two Extra Ribs
An all-girl band who have been playing together for about two years now. They have done a couple of performances in school before, but City of Ryde Battle of the Bands was their first proper gig!
They have covered a pretty expansive range of genres whilst playing together, and are auditioning to gain more experience in front of a proper crowd.
