Next date: Tuesday, 15 July 2025 | 03:00 PM to 03:45 PM

Join Michelle "The Creative Teacher" Robinson to create art from a collection of eclectic waste items including paper ephemera, recycled haberdashery and fabric, yarn, plastic and paper packaging and cardboard.

In this workshop, create 3D hanging art using cardboard, paper, ribbons, yarn and fabric to make a flying sustainable bird.

All art materials will be provided to support and encourage participants to begin their artwork on the day and to use the resource to continue at home. Participants will be encouraged to look at their own ‘waste’ produced at home as a rich source of art materials. Participants are encouraged to enter their artwork created on the day into the annual SWAP competition.

Bookings are essential.
Children under the age of 10 must be supervised at all times during the event.
Please ensure you arrive on time for your session, as late arrivals will forfeit their spot.

Brought to you in association with SWAP and City of Ryde Smarter, Cleaner, Greener Waste Management.

2025 Sustainable Waste 2 Art Prize - Competition Open

Are you over 10 years old? Then you can enter your creation into the SWAP Art Prize Competition!

Did you know your creations in our April School Holiday SWAP Recycling Workshops can be entered into the Sustainable Waste 2 Art prize?

The Sustainable Waste 2 Art Prize (SWAP) is an environmental art competition that aims to raise awareness of environmental issues and encourage positive behaviour change using artworks and design objects made from upcycled waste materials as mediums of communication.

There's $5,000 in prizes across six categories. Prizes will be awarded based on the upcycling of waste materials, environmental messaging and artistic merit.

Artworks and design objects will be selected for exhibition at See Street Gallery, TAFE NSW Meadowbank and there will be an opening night on 4 September 2025. More information to come.

We have a range of educational resources and videos for inspiration, advice on creating your own masterpiece and tips on photographing your artwork.

Entries are now open and will close on 27 July 2025.
