In June last year, the City of Ryde asked for feedback on a proposed to install pedestrian crossing points adjacent to properties No. 52 and 59 Adelaide Street.  In response to feedback received, Council has revised the design and relocated the proposed pedestrian refuge further south to align with the pedestrian link between Adelaide Street and Grand Avenue.

WHAT ARE THE CHANGES BEING CONSIDERED?

In order to improve pedestrian access, Council is proposing the following:

  • Install a pedestrian refuge in Adelaide Street, immediately north of the intersection with Deakin Street
  • Formalise the existing bus stop on the western-side, adjacent 69 Adelaide Street

WILL PARKING BE REMOVED?

To allow sufficient access for the new pedestrian crossing points with kerb ramps, and to improve inter-visibility between drivers and pedestrians approaching the crossing, ‘NO STOPPING’ signs will be installed on both sides of the road.

WHY IS A CROSSING POINT IN ADELAIDE STREET REQUIRED?

The City of Ryde recently undertook a study to improve pedestrian access and safety around Meadowbank Station West.  The study identified a number of issues in the area, including the lack of pedestrian access across Adelaide Street toward Meadowbank Train Station and Meadowbank Park.  As a result, Council is proposing to install new pedestrian crossing points to improve access in the area.
