Shrimptons Creek Shared User Path Lighting

  • Project typeFacilities Upgrade

  • Completion Date30 June 2022

As part of City of Ryde’s ongoing commitment to safety and promoting an active lifestyle, Council is installing new LED pedestrian lighting along three sections of Shrimptons Creek shared user path between Bridge Road and Epping Road.

The three sections are: Bridge Road to Cook Street, Ford Street to Kent Road and Kent Road to Epping Road.

In early 2021, the City of Ryde asked for feedback on the draft concept design for the installation of the lights. Following the feedback received, Council has developed a detailed design and will now be commencing the works.

What will the works include?

The works will include:

  • Installation of over 60 LED pedestrian light poles
  • Open trenching, tunnel boring and vacuum excavation to install foundations, poles, conduits and electrical pits
  • Electrical cabling works
  • Installation of new switchboards
  • Replacement of sections of concrete pathway
  • Returfing and revegetation if required
  • Existing lighting within Flinders Park and Tindarra Reserve will be removed following the installation of the new lighting
When will the works be completed?

Works are currently underway and are planned for completion by mid June 2022, weather permitting.

Works will be undertaken Monday to Friday between 7:00am and 6:00pm and some Saturday’s between 7:00am and 1:00pm.

For the duration of the works, sections of the shared user path will be closed.

For the safety of cyclists and pedestrians, temporary detour paths will be in place and will be updated as works move.

The current detour/s in place can be viewed via the online interactive map

Please note detours may be subject to change, without notice.

What lights are being installed?

The lighting infrastructure will generally consist of poles 5 metres in height with energy efficient LED light fittings.

The lighting brightness will comply with Australian Standards for pedestrian and cycleway lighting levels for public spaces (Category PP2 of AS/NZ 1158.3.1:2020). If required, glare shields will be included to minimise light spill to comply with Australian Standards.

The height of the poles have been considered for light spill and vandal resistance. The poles and light fittings comply with the Australian Standard requirements.

What will be the operation time of the lights?

In the afternoon, the lights will turn on when the sensor detects insufficient natural light. At night, the lights will turn off at 11.30pm in summer and 10.30pm in winter. In the morning, the pathway lighting will turn back on at 5.00am and turn off when a sensor detects sufficient natural light. This is in accordance with City of Ryde's Open Space Lighting Policy.

Will Council install lighting in other sections of the shared user path?
