TALENT QUESTS

I’m thrilled to announce that two great competitions recognising local talent are now open. Council’s Ryde Shine Ability competition for people with disability who live, work or study in the City of Ryde area is back for its second year.

This fantastic event celebrates talent and creativity and whether you love singing, dancing, playing a musical instrument, telling jokes, acting, or performing a magic trick — we want to hear from you. Entries close on 19 October 2025. You can find out more about Ryde Shine Ryde Shine Ability competition by clicking here.

Entries are also open for our brand-new Ryde Inclusive Arts Competition, a celebration of creativity in painting, drawing or collaging for people with disability, aged 18 and over, who live, work, or study in the City of Ryde. The theme for our inaugural competition is ‘Inclusion and Belonging’ and entries close on Friday 31 October 2025.

SHOP RYDER

The City of Ryde has made the decision to discontinue the Shop Ryder bus service from 20 December 2025.

The service, which has operated since 2008, has become increasingly challenging to deliver due to increasing operating costs and legislative constraints and liabilities imposed by the Heavy Vehicle National Law (HVNL).

Council resolved to take this step at its 22 July 2025 meeting, noting that Shop Ryder would almost entirely duplicate existing public transport service routes if further modifications were introduced to comply with HVNL.

You can find more information and discover alternative transport services by clicking here.

MEET THE MAYOR

I’m inviting everyone in the community along to my next Meet the Mayor gathering, which is taking place at West Ryde Marketplace on Saturday 20 September 2025 between 10.00am and 11.30am. These friendly, informal gatherings are proving to be a wonderful way for me to talk to you and take in your concerns, interests and ideas about how we can make our great City even better.

There will be facepainting for the kids to enjoy, so bring along the whole family for an informative, productive and fun morning.
