Cheer on the Mighty Matildas at live sites

The FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023™ is heading to Australia in July and City of Ryde is throwing its support behind the mighty Matildas with every game to be screened free at public live sites.
Football fans will be able to gather at Meadowbank Park for the Matildas’ opening group match against Republic of Ireland on Thursday 20 July before moving to Eastwood Plaza for the home team’s clashes with Nigeria on Thursday 27 July and Canada on Monday 31 July.
All matches are scheduled for an 8.00pm start so make sure you arrive in plenty of time to soak up the big match atmosphere with an excited community of local fans.
At the first game at Meadowbank, we will have a BBQ hosted by West Ryde Rovers as well as a Pizza Truck and Dessert Truck.
There will be entertainment for the kids including inflatable soccer activities and face painting. We will be supplying a limited number of bean bags and gas heaters.
City of Ryde Mayor Clr Sarkis Yedelian OAM said the live sites will be a great opportunity for fans to gather as a community to support our team in one of the biggest international sporting events of the year.
“Why stay at home in front of the TV when you can watch the games on a big screen and cheer along with your friends, family and neighbours,” he said.
“Our Matildas are on the world stage, playing at home, and they need to know they have the support of the whole nation – including the people of Ryde.”
Clr Bernard Purcell, who presented the original Notice of Motion to Council in July 2022 about establishing men’s and women’s football World Cup live sites, said it was a wonderful opportunity for fans of all ages.
“I hope Ryde will show its appreciation and backs this fabulous Australian Women’s team as they strive to be world champions,” he said.
“Watch them play live at one of our events, at a local venue at a local time. Bring a comfy chair, a picnic rug, and your voices!”
