Celebrate World environment day with us at the 2023 Sustainability Festival, an event that promotes sustainability, resilience, and environmental awareness. This year's festival will be held on Sunday 4 June 2023 from 10.00am - 2.00pm at Ryde Park. 

Parking is limited we encourage attendees to use sustainable transport modes, and for those who ride their bikes to the festival, the City of Ryde Transport tent is giving away free goodie bags and offering free bike safety checks from Fix and Ride. There will be bike racks located nearby. Public transport buses 500 and 500X stop near the event and run every 10 minutes from West Ryde train station.

Activities

  • Visit Tumbleweed to learn how to reduce your food waste by turning your leftover food into nutrient fertiliser. Learn about the Compost Connection program that the City of Ryde offers and get a chance to win a free compost bin or worm farm on the day!
  • Sydney Water Wonders of Water Van: Learn about the importance of saving water through interactive educational displays and a video game.
  • Go4Fun NSW health initiative: Participate in fun, light activities and games to improve physical activity, movement skills, self-esteem, and confidence in kids, along with nutritional information for families.
  • Get Grubby TV area: Chill out and sit for a little bit while watching dirtgirl, scrapboy, and Costa the Garden Gnome show you the importance of getting outside, getting grubby, and falling in love with the natural world for a new generation of healthy, happy, and resilient children.
  • Scavenger hunt: Join in on the fun and see what you can find!
  • Jump on the jumping castle, play giant yard games, or get your face painted, and listen to some Live Music.
  • Visit the transport hub to hop on board a Busways EV bus, learn how to safety check your bicycle, and visit the City of Ryde Transport tent.
  • Attend the Bushland Adventures Activity at 10.15am and 12.30pm to learn about the importance of the bush and its impact on our environment.

Take part in a unique workshop where you turn waste into art. 

Insect House Workshops
Visit the Australian Environmental Education stall and make a minibeast-friendly backyard by creating an adorable little insect hotel.

Resilience Ryde
Workshops that offer important information about emergency preparedness, with sessions from the SES and Red Cross. Attendees will receive a free gift. Prebooking is required. Book Online.

Parva: Little Things
Join Parva: Little Things for a variety of DIY skincare workshops and demonstrations running throughout the day, including DIY natural facial demos, DIY perfume oil*, and DIY body oil*. Parva: Little Things encourages little changes that can make a big difference, to your health, the wellbeing of your home and in turn the Earth. Reusable Nappies Workshops
Did you know that around 8% of one household garbage bin contains nappies and sanitary products that are sent to landfill? Join One Little Sprout and learn about how to live sustainably with reusable nappies, register in advance to receive a FREE product at the end of the workshop!

Market stalls featuring one little spout reusable nappies, Camela creates, Kumbali ceramics, Tumbleweed and The Habitat community garden.

The City of Ryde will have variety of stalls at the event, including Waste Wise Ryde, Bushcare, Weeds Awareness, Sustainability and Resilience, Transport and Community Services.

Information stalls OzHarvest, Parramatta River Catchment Group, Australian Conservation Foundation, Permaculture Sydney North, Cumberland Bird Observers Club, Veolia Waste & Recycling, and Pingala Community Solar will also be available at the event.

Food trucks, fundraiser BBQ and onsite Café will be available, we encourage you to bring your water bottles, cups, containers and cutlery for food and beverages at the festival.

See Competition Terms and Conditions

  • The Promoter is the City of Ryde of 3 Richardson Place, North Ryde NSW 2113, ABN number 81 621 292 610.
  • The City of Ryde “Sustainability Festival” Competition commences at 10:00am Australian Eastern Standard Time (AEST) on Monday 22 May 2023 and ends at 11.59pm AEST on Sunday 28 May 2023.
  • Entry into the promotion is open to residents of NSW, Australia who are 18 and over.
  • To enter the competition, entrants comment on City of Ryde's Sustainability Festival Facebook competition post in response to the question ‘how you are contributing to stopping the plastic pollution?’ Entries must be 40 words or less.
  • Entries are limited to one (1) per entrant. If an entrance submits multiple entries, only the most recently submitted entry will be eligible for the competition.
  • Participation in the competition by completing the above step is deemed acceptance of these terms and conditions.
  • City of Ryde staff members, Councillors and their families and any promotional partners are not able to enter the competition.
  • The Prize consist of:
    • 1 x Sustainable Goody Pack (valued at $200)
  • The Winner will be drawn on Wednesday 31 May 2023 and will be contacted via social media. The Winner must redeem the prize at the Sustainability Festival by 2:00pm on Sunday 4 June 2023.
  • If the Promoter is unable to contact the winners within 24 hours, the winners will forfeit their prize, which will be offered to the next best entry as deemed by the Judges.
  • The Prize, or any unused portion of the Prize, is not transferable or exchangeable and cannot be redeemed as cash. The Prize is not valid in conjunction with any other offer.
  • The Prize is subject to any conditions imposed by the Promoter.
  • In the case of event cancellation, the Prize will be forfeited.
  • The Promoter recognises that this promotion is in no way sponsored, endorsed or administered by, or associated with Facebook.
  • By entering the competition, the winner consents to their name being published as winner of the competition and to participate in any publicity accompanying or resulting from this promotion in printed and/or online formats.
