The City of Ryde has donated $2,500 to this year’s Salvation Army Red Shield Appeal, following a Mayoral Minute passed at the 30 April 2025 Extraordinary Meeting.

Ryde Mayor Trenton Brown presented a cheque to Salvation Army representatives at the official Ryde & Hunters Hill zone Red Shield Appeal launch in Gladesville on Friday 9 May 2025.

Mayor Brown acknowledged the significant impact of The Salvation Army’s work within the City of Ryde and across Australia.

“Since its inception in 1965, the Red Shield Appeal has grown into The Salvation Army’s primary fundraising initiative, supporting an extensive range of social and community services across the country,” Mayor Brown said.

“Recognised by its iconic red shield symbol, the Appeal is a reminder of the power of community giving and compassion.”

Each year, the Appeal is launched with community events and activities nationwide, running throughout May and June.

Mayor Brown said the funds raised enabled The Salvation Army to deliver crucial programs that assist those facing homelessness, family violence, financial hardship, addiction, and social isolation.

Over the last financial year, the Salvos have provided over 1.1 million nights of accommodation and over $24.3 million in financial assistance via cash, gift cards, vouchers and more to those in need.

“These services are often a lifeline for individuals and families in our community who have nowhere else to turn,” Mayor Brown said.

“I encourage all residents, community groups, and businesses to get behind the 2025 Red Shield Appeal whether by donating, volunteering, or spreading the word.”

The national Red Shield Appeal Doorknock will take place on 24 and 25 May 2025. For details on how to donate and to plan your own fundraising event, click here
