Published on 29 May 2025
World Environment Day on Thursday 5 June is a fantastic opportunity for the community to get together and take practical steps to help look after our planet, with this year’s focus on ending plastic pollution.
To celebrate, City of Ryde is hosting World Environment Day events over several weeks, offering something for everyone passionate about protecting our natural world.
From creating Fabulous Flowers out of recycled items to getting your hands dirty planting trees, City of Ryde has put together a diverse selection events and activities.
This year, there will be workshops, interactive eco-activities and expert talks held across libraries, parks and halls from Saturday 31 May to Tuesday 24 June.
City of Ryde’s libraries will be a hub of activity, including Fabulous Flowers and fermenting workshops, World Environment Day Storytime sessions and sustainability assessments.
Those wanting to dig a little deeper can take part in a tree planting day at Looking Glass Bay Park in Gladesville and join a sustainable house tour and guided walk through the Blue Gum High Forest.
City of Ryde Mayor Trenton Brown said the celebrations are part of Council’s commitment to promoting sustainable living, waste reduction, biodiversity of our natural habitats and sustainable transport.
“I’m excited that this year we are offering opportunities over three weeks for people of all ages to find an activity that sparks curiosity and collective action,” Mayor Brown said.
“This is a fantastic opportunity for people of all ages to gain practical knowledge with like-minded community members about how to live more sustainably.”
