The City of Ryde is delivering a new public park that will be located close to Macquarie Park Metro Station, highly accessible from surrounding streets and will create a vibrant open space attractive for local workers, commuters and the local community.
The park has been named in honour of Dr Catherine Hamlin AC (1924 – 2020).
Dr. Catherine Hamlin AC was raised in the Hermitage, Denistone, and co-founded the Addis Ababa Fistual Hospital with her husband, Dr. Reginald Hamlin, in Ethiopia. The hospital provided free surgery to women suffering childbirth injuries throughout Africa. She was appointed a Member of the Order of Australia in 1983, nominated for a Nobel Peace Prize in 1999, and in 2001 was awarded the Centenary Medal.
What will the key features include?
The park includes key features such as outdoor exercise equipment, event space, seating, BBQ area, public artwork, kick-about space and an amenities building.
When will the construction take place?
Construction Start: November 2025
Expected Completion: October 2026, weather permitting.
Works will primarily be undertaken from Monday to Friday between 7:00am – 5:00pm and on Saturdays between 8:00am – 1:00pm with fencing to barricade the works.
Some noise disturbance can be expected at times while these works are completed, however the work will be managed to minimise disturbance to nearby residents and businesses as much as practically possible.
