Sunny-Wong-1.png Tell us a bit about who you are and what kind of creative work you make
My name is Sunny Night, I studied art and graphic design at University and then worked as a graphic designer and multimedia designer over the past 20 years.

Since 2020, I started painting again, this time more seriously. My inspiration comes from life, nature, music and movies. I paint with enthusiasm and passion until the painting is an expression of myself.

I like to apply various colours, textures, mixed media and layers to create unique combinations which bring interest, openness and positive emotion to the viewer.

My artworks focus on seascapes, landscapes, impasto/texture, impressionism and abstract.

Sunny-Wong-2.png How does your personal history, culture or experience inform your creative work?
When I worked as a designer, one of the most important things was ‘paying attention to details!’ Many years of that experience affects all my previous and future works. Never miss any details!

What is a creative project that you’ve worked on that you are really proud of? Why?
An artwork GOLDEN SUNSET was created in the second year I began painting again and it won the first highly commended prize in EPPING ARTS FAIR 2022. It's so grateful that my artwork got recognised and went to a collector as well.

Sunny-Wong-3.png What creative project are you working on at the moment?
I'm currently working on the CITY VIBES series of cityscape paintings which shows different cities in the world. It's very challenging and exciting at the same time, it combines many details such as people, architecture, lights, perspective, reflection, colour, mood, etc. It's a very interesting project and I’m looking forward to publishing them all.

What is the most challenging part of working as an artist / creative?
Don't stay in your comfort zone. Stay hungry, stay foolish. Always challenge yourself and always question if there is a better way.

Sunny-Wong-4.png Do you have any rituals or routines that help you to be more creative?
Music! I listen to music when I create. It is like opening a door to another world. Different music generates different emotions, it enhances my feelings and concentrates my mind on the artworks. It helps a lot.

Do you have any top tips for emerging artists and creatives just starting out?
Basic techniques and skills are important, beyond that, I quote from great martial artist Bruce Lee which I believe the same apply to art creativity:

Empty your mind.
Be formless, shapeless, like water.
You put water into a cup, it becomes the cup.
You put water into a bottle, it becomes the bottle.
You put it into a teapot, it becomes the teapot.
Now water can flow or it can crash.
Be water, my friend! Sunny-Wong-5.png
