Pedestrian Crossing Lighting Upgrade

Brief:

The City of Ryde is committed to improving safety for users of pedestrian crossings throughout the LGA at all hours of the day. As part of this commitment, Council’s objective is to investigate and upgrade lighting infrastructure at over 100 pedestrian crossings to ensure compliance to AS1158.4 at each site. The works are undertaken in consultation and liaison with Ausgrid and other relevant authorities.

What will the work involve?

Council is undertaking detailed engineering design and investigations concurrently with staged construction work to deliver the pedestrian crossings lighting works. Proposed upgrades at each site generally involve a combination of some of the following:

  • New multi-function poles and / or street light poles
  • Adjustments to existing poles and/or brackets
  • New floodlights
  • New road lights
  • Adjustments to underground electrical conduits

When will the work take place?

As of September 2025, 66 sites have been delivered and all other remaining sites in investigation, design or procurement phase.

Full project completion and delivery is expected by the end of 2027.
