Mayor's Community Message

4 February

RESIDENT ARTIST

City of Ryde’s new Artist in Residence Tom Isaacs has started his Open Studio events at our Westward Cottage studio and interested community members are invited to pop in to see him at work.

Tom is a contemporary artist and academic and through his textile practice he explores themes of wellbeing, care, and the profound importance of human relationships and connection.

Since completing his PhD in 2022, Tom has taught at the University of Sydney and the National Art School. He draws inspiration from diverse sources, including philosophy, poetry, and art history.

The Open Studio events are being held on Mondays and Tuesdays from 2.00 – 4.00pm at the 8 Turner Street, Ryde studio space, which is close to Top Ryde City shopping centre. I encourage everyone to take part in this fascinating and rewarding experience.

MUSICAL MORNING

Ryde Library will be the venue for a wonderful morning of music on Monday 9 February when local choir SydneySiders Express Harmony Chorus bring their beautiful voices to the latest Musical Morning Tea between 10.30am and 11.30am.

The group began in 1989 and over the years they have shared the enjoyment of harmony singing and performing for many different organisations, raising over $190,000 for the Children’s Hospital, Westmead along the way.

They have been a part of the Ryde scene for over 16 years, meeting every Thursday night at St Anne’s Church Centre, singing well-known songs in acapella style.

This is a great chance to celebrate a morning of music while enjoying a cuppa and some biscuits.
