Mayor's community Message

27 March

RYDE’S NEW MAYOR

I was honoured to be elected the new Mayor of the City of Ryde at an Extraordinary Council Meeting held on 19 March 2024.

I will hold this position until the 14 September 2024 Local Government elections, at which time the voters of Ryde will choose a popularly elected Mayor.

In the meantime, I will devote my time and energy to this wonderful community, working collaboratively and harmoniously with my fellow councillors to meet the challenges we face, ensuring the best outcomes for all.

Over the next six months I will be focussing on key issues such as the Ryde Civic Centre project, the protection of jobs in the Macquarie Park Innovation District, and the ongoing provision and enhancement of social infrastructure for our community such as parks, playgrounds, and sports fields including TG Millner Sports Field. In taking on this important role, I would like to pay tribute to my predecessor Clr Sarkis Yedelian OAM, who has tirelessly served both this Council and the Ryde community for 20 years. He will be enjoying a well-deserved retirement after this Council term ends and I wish him all the best.

EASTWOOD MASTERPLAN

The City of Ryde is developing a Masterplan for Eastwood, aiming to shape the area’s future in collaboration with our community.

If you live, work or play in Eastwood, I’m encouraging you to provide feedback and help Council understand its unique challenges and opportunities. We want to know what you love about Eastwood, what needs improvement, and your ideas for growth and change in the future.

The masterplan seeks to enhance Eastwood’s public spaces, encourage high-quality architectural development, preserve the area’s distinct character and heritage, resolve flooding issues, and ensure that future growth is supported by infrastructure.

It will also consider potential economic opportunities as a result of the redevelopment of Ryde Hospital.

We’re holding our first drop-in session at Eastwood Railway Station on Thursday 4 April between 4.00 - 6.00pm – please drop by and let us know your thoughts and suggestions.

PARKING REGULATIONS

At the September 2023 Council Meeting the City of Ryde resolved to undertake a comprehensive and targeted education campaign to tackle the illegal parking of trailers, caravans, and boats on streets across the LGA.

I am encouraging the community to park their cars, caravans, boats, trailers, and other vehicles on their own property, noting that it's not an offence for these types of vehicles to be parked on the road outside or close by the owner’s residence if they are registered and less than 7.5 metres long.

But if your vehicle is longer than 7.5 metres or weighs more than 4.5 tonnes GVM (gross vehicle mass), the vehicle is classified as a heavy and long vehicle. The drivers of those vehicles are prohibited from stopping on roads in built-up areas for more than one hour.

Council encourages its residents to abide by State Government regulations designed to protect public spaces – including streets – from abandoned and unattended items.

Yours Sincerely,

Clr Brown - Mayor
