Council held an extraordinary meeting on 12 September 2023. The following is a summary of outcomes from the meeting.

Notice of Rescission

A rescission motion regarding a resolution at the 22 August 2023 Council Meeting on the proposed installation of a pedestrian safety handrail in East Ryde was defeated.

Korean Lantern Festival for Lunar New Year

Council recognised the cultural significance of Lunar New Year and resolved to support the organisation and implementation of a culturally appropriate lantern display leading up to the City of Ryde’s Lunar New Year Festival. Council will invite The Korean Cultural Centre Australia, The Korean Chamber of Commerce Ryde, and The Koreatown Working Party to join the existing Ryde Lunar New Year Festival committee to collaborate and share ideas for organising lantern displays and banners at the Koreatown precinct on Rowe Street East, Eastwood. It will also seek upcoming funding opportunities from the Australia-Korea Foundation and The National Foundation for Australia-China Relations. A report will be brought back to Council on the outcomes of those funding grant applications, including further recommendations to Council.
