A bright and bold new mural has been unveiled in the pedestrian underpass at Victoria Road in West Ryde as part of the City of Ryde’s 2022 Art Activation Project.

The mural is a collaboration between Council’s City Activation Team, local community arts group Artisans Ryde and Transport for NSW.

Titled ‘Our West Ryde’ the mural features a variety of themes that celebrates West Ryde as a transport hub, an active and social town centre, as well as its open spaces and parkland.

The concept design for the artwork was developed via a public workshop, with more than 30 community members also helping paint the mural over three months this year.

City of Ryde Mayor, Clr Jordan Lane, said the mural not only brightens up the pedestrian underpass, but also celebrates the West Ryde community.

“The mural has transformed this dark and dull area into and a bright and welcoming pedestrian underpass that highlights all that is great about West Ryde,” Clr Lane said.

“It will not only improve the pedestrian experience but also act as a graffiti deterrent with an anti-graffiti coating to be applied shortly.

“I would like to thank Artisans Ryde and Transport for NSW for collaborating with Council for this project. Not only is the artwork eye-catching, it will highly valued by everyone in West Ryde for years to come.”
