The City of Ryde Integrated Transport Strategy (ITS) 2045 sets a new direction for how we will plan, manage and advocate for transport over the next 20 years.

ITS 2045 was developed through extensive engagement with the community, Transport for NSW and other stakeholders. It has been developed considering recent major changes in NSW Government housing policy, population growth, ongoing development (especially in Macquarie Park), new transport projects and shifting travel behaviours.

ITS 2045 defines our vision for transport:

Transport in the City of Ryde is sustainable, convenient, safe, inclusive, efficient and innovative, connecting our community to lifestyle and opportunities.

This vision is comprised of five outcomes:

  1. Sustainable – Transport is sustainable, supporting active, public and low-emission transport choices.
  2. Convenient – Transport is convenient, especially for trips by public transport.
  3. Safe and Inclusive – Transport is safe and inclusive, prioritising the safety of vulnerable road users.
  4. Efficient – Transport is efficient, balancing movement, parking and the place value of streets and local centres.
  5. Innovative – Transport is innovative, embracing best practice approaches and emerging technology.

ITS 2045 is intended to serve as Council’s primary strategic document providing the framework for the long-term integrated transport planning in the City of Ryde to achieve these outcomes. It will also serve as a platform for advocacy to other levels of government, the private sector and broader community, defining our transport vision, guiding principles, outcomes and objectives for transport.

The implementation of ITS 2045 will be operationalised through a range of supporting plans (including a Sustainable Transport Plan, Active Transport Plan, Public Transport Plan, Road Safety Plan and parking plans of management) currently in development. These supporting plans will each include actions to be implemented as part of Council’s annual operational planning process.
