Social Inclusion Week

23 November - 1 December 2019

Join City of Ryde and ‘Connect, Collaborate and Celebrate’ as part of Social Inclusion Week Australia, which is dedicated to promoting the shared benefits of social inclusion.

Social inclusion is about creating conditions that allow everyone to have equal opportunities. This means that all people have the best opportunities to enjoy life and do well in society. The promotion of social inclusion policies has demonstrated its effectiveness in bringing people together and reducing discrimination within communities across the world.

During Social Inclusion Week, City of Ryde will be offering something for everyone with a series of fun events aimed at raising awareness and connecting people and groups within our community. The event program will also highlight some of Council's initiatives that enable all residents to participate in every aspect of the community.

Highlights of the Week

Saturday 23 November  Creativity Unleashed at West Ryde Plaza
Sunday 24 November Inclusive Fashion Parade at Top Ryde Shopping Centre
Wednesday 27 November  Zumba in the Plaza
Thursday 28 November Children’s Inclusive sports day (run throughout primary schools)

The event program held during Social Inclusion Week is one of the many ways City of Ryde is promoting social inclusion throughout the community. Since City of Ryde is home to a diverse community, the Council naturally has made it a priority to run initiatives that encourage inclusion across all sections of the community.

For example, Council’s Disability Inclusion Action Plan identifies ways to improve the quality of life of people living with disability and their families. This includes the provision of accessible, equitable and inclusive Council services, events and facilities.

Council also offers a range of programs designed to assist those with a disability including our:

  • Home modification and maintenance service
  • Assisted bin collection service
  • Home library service
