What is The Hive - Digital Media Lab ?

The Hive Digital Media Lab is a new Library service for the community to access creative software on Macs and PCs for creative projects and its free to Library members.

Offering  individually bookable iMacs and PCs, The Hive offers creative and industry standard software for design, 3D modelling, web and app development and image, audio and video editing software.

The Hive will benefit students, hobbyists, small business, job seekers and creative enthusiasts.

What can I do in The Hive?

Community members will now be able to create an array of creative projects including web pages, business cards, edit music and edit film and photos without having to pay the high costs of creative software licences. opeing

The Hive can provide you access to a midi keyboard and headphones to assist in the development of your project.

Please note printing facilities are limited to A4-A3 standard printers. It is recommended that you take your creative project to a professional printing service for the final product

Who can use The Hive (hours and location)

The Hive is located at the West Ryde Library Branch, 2 Graf Ave, West Ryde.

The Hive is available to all community members and only requires a Library membership card to access.

The Hive operates Monday to Sunday during West Ryde Library’s normal operating hours

  • Bookings can be placed online or in the Library on the booking station.
  • Users can book a two-hour session as per daily allowance, subject to availability.
  • Users can request staff for an extended booking session exceeding two-hours, provided the use is intended for a creative project the user is working on, and subject to availability.

The Digital Media Lab is monitored by Ryde Library Service staff. Bookings outside of the intended use, or in breach of State Library policies may not be honoured.

Do you offer workshops?

We currently do not provide any training for the software available in The Hive.

The self-directed learning model is supported through the provision of:

  • A ready reference library of books related to the software within The Hive
  • Website links for online learning platforms
