There are a number of local organisations actively seeking people who are keen to donate their time and skills in gardening, shopping, driving, home visits and much more. The directory below is a List of Current Vacancies for volunteering positions.

Urgent Volunteer Roles

Ryde Libraries

Ryde Library Rhymetime Session Assistant (ages 0-2 years) 
Frequency: Every second Friday morning, 9.30am – 11.15am

West Ryde Library Storytime Session Assistant (ages 2 – 5 years)
Frequency: Every Wednesday morning, 10.30am – 12 noon

West Ryde Library Kids Club assistant (ages 5+ years)
Frequency: Every Tuesday afternoon, 3.30pm – 5pm

These roles involve helping to set up and pack up activities including moving furniture with other volunteers and/or staff.  Other tasks include handing out craft at storytime, helping children and their carers with craft, joining in with singing at rhymetime, answering basic questions, and ensuring prams are clear of exits. Skills in languages other than English are desirable but not essential.

North Ryde Community Aid and Information Service

Client Individual Transport - Drivers
To provide door to door transport, one way or return, of an NRCA client to appointments, generally of a medical nature, when they no longer drive, or catch public transport unaccompanied, safely.
Frequency: As required.

Linen Service Provider
To provide a high-quality linen service, stripping and re-making beds using professional laundered Manchester, for NRCA clients who are unable to safely complete their bed changing and laundering by themselves.
Frequency: Tuesday weekly 7.30 am-9.30 am and/or Wednesday fortnightly 12.30pm - 2.30pm.

Shopping Assistant - Escorted or Unaccompanied
To transport and assist an NRCA client who is unable to safely complete their shopping unaccompanied or to shop by list for a client who is unable to shop even if escorted.
Frequency: 2 hours, fortnightly.

Gardening and Home Maintenance
To provide light gardening and minor home maintenance to NRCA clients who may not have the agility to weed, prune and maintain their garden or have the tools to change a light bulb, replace a door hinge or fix a leaking tap.
Frequency: As required, minimum 2 hour commitment.

Social Activities Assistant - Lunch & Morning Tea
To provide a quality social experience and nutritious morning tea/lunch for NRCA clients  - Tuesday 12 noon-2pm, Wednesday 12 noon-2pm and Thursday’s 10am-12 noon.
Frequency: 2.5 hours, weekly

Meals on Wheels Driver
Collect meals from Sydney Community Services at Hunters Hill and drive in own car to clients home to delivery meal.

Catholic Community Services | Ryde area 

Community Link Program - It is a telephone support service for older people who live alone. Volunteers will make a regular 5 minute telephone call each week to provide social contact and a safety check for an older person or a person who is socially isolated.

Community Visiting Scheme - Visit people living in aged care homes that are socially isolated or lonely and would benefot from a friendly visitor all around Sydney.

Bushcare Volunteers - to assist in the rehabilitation, management and maintenance of remnant urban bushland areas within the City of Ryde. Activities include: weed removal & control, seed collection and propagation, site assessment, planning and monitoring, fauna and flora management.

Health and Wellbeing Collaboration (HAWC) | Macquarie University

Multiple Sclerosis (MS) | North Ryde

Community Visitor - Do you enjoy the company of other people and have time to commit to at least one visit per fortnight? We require community visitors to visit people with MS in the Ryde / Hunters Hill areas. You can have a chat, read a book, go for a walk. You can take pets or children on visits too. North Ryde Community Aid & Information Centre | North Ryde

Driver - providing door to door transport, one way or return, for an aged client to their medical or legal appointments when they no longer drive or catch public transport unaccompanied, safely.

Activities Program Helper - assisting with preparing morning tea and/or lunch and helping program Coordinator with various activities designed for aged and multi-cultural groups.

Linen Service Assistant - delivering clean linen and making beds for aged clients who can no longer undertake this task and launder their own linen.

Shopping Volunteer - escorting and assisting the aged to shop for their groceries and run errands or shopping ‘by list’ for someone who can no longer get out and shop for them self. 

Primary Ethics

Volunteer Ethics Teacher - to prepare and deliver Primary Ethics' approved lesson materials to a class of between 8 to 22 students at a local primary school each week. Full training will be provided. 

Royal Rehab | Putney

July 2018 – currently the Royal Rehab Centre at Ryde is undergoing a restructure cannot place any more NEW volunteers in roles. 

Ryde Hunters Hill Community Transport Inc | Gladesville

Bus Assistant - Assistant for our social outing bus trips.  Assist passengers on and off the bus and at venues, assist driver as requested.
Either male or female - 8.30 am - 4 pm approximately.

Medical Appointment Driver - To convey passengers safely to and from destinations for medical or other personal appointments.  Day/s & hours flexible.

Sydney Community Services | Gladesville

Community Visiting Scheme - Visit people living in aged care homes that are socially isolated or lonely & would benefit from a friendly visitor.

Volunteer Visiting Service - Visit elderly people or person with a disability in their own home in the community who are socially isolated or lonely & would benefit from a friendly visitor.

Community Bus Driving - Driving clients and staff on social bus outings to various locations across Sydney. LR license required.

Meals on Wheels - Deliver nutritious meals to frail aged or people with a disability living in Hunters Hill and parts of Ryde LGA. Must have current license, have access to a car with Comprehensive Third Party Insurance and be available weekday mornings.

Corporate gardening volunteers- Assist elderly people or people with a disability living in their own homes with gardening.


English Tutors - Provide English tutoring and practice for migrants and refugees via the Adult Migrant English Program. TAFE NSW will provide all training and online resources. Tutoring is usually conducted at a mutually convenient location such as a library. For more information email

The Habitat Network

Nursery attendants and people to sell local native plants and food plants are required at The Habitat Network Nursery. Full training will be provided. You are required to wear a hat, sunscreen, long sleeved shirt and closed shoes. Nursery hours 10 am to 4 pm Wednesday and Saturday.

Recycling Volunteer - Visit business or community groups to promote environmental awareness and collect, sort and clean recyclable materials.

Tree Planting Volunteer - Plant trees in Ryde area.

Environmental Ambassador - Organise presentations and deliver environmental awareness presentations to schools and businesses. Training provided.
