Multicultural Working Group

Applications for the Multicultural Working Group are now closed.

The primary role of the Multicultural Working Group is to provide advice to Council to ensure that Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CALD) residents in the City of Ryde are welcomed and able to participate actively and inclusively in all aspects of community and civic life. This working group will also support Council to recognise and value the diversity of the community.

Composition of Working Group

  • All Councillors are eligible to attend and participate in each City of Ryde Working Group, without formal membership, in accordance with their Terms of Reference.
  • Fifteen (15) community representatives

Community representatives must meet at least one of the following:

  • People who are representative of the cultural, ethnic, faith and linguistic diversity of the City of Ryde.
  • Professionals and local service providers that are supporting and working closely with CALD residents.
  • Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islanders.
  • People with disability representative of CALD communities.
  • LGBTQI+ community members representative of CALD communities.

Priority of membership will be allocated to Ryde residents, Ryde ratepayers and local business owners. 

Selection Criteria

Nominations will be assessed by Council against the following criteria:

  • Community members that have strong connections with local multicultural communities.
  • Previous involvement with community initiatives that aim to support and promote Ryde’s cultural diversity.
  • A strong commitment to develop a diverse and inclusive Ryde community.
  • Ability to identify community needs to advocate on issues relevant to multicultural communities.

Meeting Structure

All Working Group meetings will be “hybrid” meetings with attendance either in person or via remote audio-visual attendance permitted.
