Mayor's Community Message

18 February

BLENHEIM PARK

I am thrilled that work has officially commenced on our exciting Blenheim Park Masterplan, which will transform this already beautiful open space at North Ryde into a wonderfully enhanced gathering place for our community.

As you know, work was delayed while Council carried out important remediation after the discovery of contaminants during the due diligence phase and I’d like to thank the community for its understanding and patience while this essential task was undertaken.

Construction, which is scheduled to be completed by July 2027, will create a significantly upgraded park.

Key improvements include a major regional playground featuring nature play elements, new multi-use courts, fitness stations, picnic and barbecue areas, and a dedicated off-leash dog area. The park will also see upgrades to its radio control car track, pathways, parking, lighting, and environmental features such as bioswales and biodiversity corridors.

The creation and enhancement of open space is one of my key priorities as Mayor of this great City and I’m excited to see this innovative masterplan proceed.

AFTER-HOURS LIBRARY

The 12-month trial of the 24/7 Eastwood Library begins on Monday 23 February, heralding a groundbreaking new addition to the services offered by City of Ryde Libraries.

The trial, which follows the successful adoption of after-hours library services in other areas of Sydney, will provide anytime access to Eastwood Library’s full suite of extensive resources for community members who find it difficult to visit during normal operating hours.

Whether you’re a student needing a quiet place to study at night, a worker wanting to access the library before or after office hours, or a book lover wanting to hunt for that new novel before breakfast, the 24/7 Eastwood Library is the place for you.

LUNAR NEW YEAR

The countdown for City of Ryde’s Lunar New Year Festival on Saturday 28 February is now underway and

it’s never too early to start planning your day.

Running from 12.00-9.00pm in the heart of Eastwood this is a fantastic event celebrating an important day on the calendar of many of our diverse Asian communities.

It promises to be a fun-filled day for the whole family, with colourful performances, amusement rides, great food and spectacular fireworks.
