Mayor's Community Message
25 February
YEAR OF THE HORSE
I can’t wait to see everyone at Eastwood on Saturday 28 February when the City of Ryde hosts its annual Lunar New Year Festival, welcoming the Year of the Horse.
This year, thanks to an Open Streets Program grant from the State Government, we’re expanding the festivities into our Koreatown precinct along Railway Parade between 12.00 – 5.00pm.
The Open Streets Program is designed to promote vibrant local communities – and that’s exactly what we’ll experience on Saturday, with streets that are usually filled with traffic instead filled with laughter, music, culture and connection.
Eastwood Oval will come to life from 4.00 – 9.00pm, with amusement rides, bustling market stalls, food trucks, cultural performances, and a breathtaking lion high pole performance before concluding with a spectacular fireworks display.
The City of Ryde is proudly one of the most diverse communities in Australia and events like this demonstrate that diversity is not just something we talk about – it is something we celebrate, invest in, and elevate.

TILLIES RETURN
I think everyone remembers the excitement that gripped Sydney when the Matildas made their thrilling FIFA Women’s World Cup run in 2023.
Tillies fever is set to return early next month when our national team takes part in the AFC Women’s Asian Cup being played across Australia and I encourage local fans to get together to cheer on Sam Kerr, Mary Fowler and the rest of the team.
There are a number of local venues screening the Matildas’ matches, starting with the opening clash against the Philippines on Sunday 1 March at 8.00pm.
So, get your family and friends together, book a group table where you can and show your support by wearing green and gold.

YOUTH SUMMIT
Registrations are now open for the Ryde Mayor’s Youth Summit Bootcamp 2, which is taking place at the Macquarie University Incubator on Wednesday 18 March from 9.00am – 1.00pm.
The Bootcamp, which is being held in preparation for the Mayor’s Youth Summit on 23 April, offers a unique chance for young people aged 18-24 to build advocacy, communication, and leadership skills, while connecting participants directly with policy makers and community leaders.
