Food Waste

Bowl of food scraps

City of Ryde waste audits have shown that over 40% of the waste thrown in our garbage bins is food and this can be avoided through better meal planning and composting.

Council provides several programs to help our community reduce their food waste and divert waste from landfill.

The City of Ryde is also working closely with other councils and the NSW state government to investigate food waste collection trials to meet our waste reduction goals and the goals of NSW Waste and Sustainable Material Strategy 2041.

Compost Connection

This free online education program demonstrates step by step how to set up and maintain a compost bin or worm farm through a series of short videos and fact sheets.

Workshops

Council provides free workshops for our residents throughout the year on a range of waste and recycling issues.  Participants in our Composting and Worm Farming workshops who live in the City of Ryde will receive a discount voucher for 50% off the price of a compost bin or worm farm.
