The City of Ryde is committed to the delivery of high quality infrastructure including the upgrade of our streetscapes to improve pedestrian amenity and to provide safe and accessible footpaths for the community.

As part of this commitment, Council is upgrading the footpath and lighting along Giffnock Avenue, Macquarie Park. Council has recently completed Stage 1 of the upgrade (between 8 and 20 Giffnock Avenue) and we are pleased to advise that this upgrade will continue with Stage 2 works (between 22 Giffnock Avenue and the Lyonpark Road/Byfield Street roundabout).

What will the works include?

The works will include construction of a 2.5 metre-wide granite paving footpath, removal of Ausgrid poles, tree planting, driveway upgrades, landscaping and installation of multi-function lighting poles.

Changed Conditions

Works will primarily be undertaken Monday to Friday between 7:00am and 5:00pm, with some Saturday and night works required.

Where required, Traffic Control will be in place to manage vehicular traffic and pedestrian movements safely. No road closures are expected as construction activities are occurring within the extent of the footpath. Pedestrians will be re-routed to an alternative safe pathway and only minor delays are expected for vehicles.

Some of the activities will occur during night shifts and weekends to ensure minimum disruption. Access to the shops, businesses and bus stops will be maintained.

Further notifications will be provided by Council’s contractor, Celtic Civil as works progress.

When will the works be completed?

Works are underway and is planned for completion by May 2022, weather permitting.
