Meadowbank Park Sports Field Upgrades

This project will deliver stages 3 and 4 of the Meadowbank Park Masterplan, adopted in 2019. The works involve the replacement of existing netball courts with multipurpose turf playing fields, a cricket pitch, the construction of a new amenities building, with club rooms and associated facilities, and the management of contaminated materials present on site.

Council received a $6,048,400 grant through the NSW Department of Planning and Environment Accelerated Infrastructure Fund (AIF) to contribute to this project. These funds are being combined with Council funding to deliver the project.

The site works commenced in early 2026 with the following works completed to date:

Removal of the existing netball courts and early stages of bulk earthworks.
Demolition of the existing amenities building.
Installation of footings for the new amenities building.

During early stages of the construction works, contamination was discovered throughout the area of works which requires further targeted investigations to determine the exact nature and full extent of the contamination to enable an appropriate remediation strategy (if required) to be developed.

All site works have been temporarily suspended to enable further geotechnical investigations to be undertaken to determine the full extent of contamination that were found during the earlier construction works. The onsite geotechnical investigations will commence in late August and will take approximately 6 months to complete.

Meanwhile, Council’s contractor has removed all their onsite equipment and amenities from the site, and the existing security fence has been rearranged to enable increased use of the existing parking at the end of Adelaide Street. Access to parking for users of the adjoining parks and facilities will be available from Thursday 23 July.
