Creative Spotlight | The Norm

Tell us a bit about who you are and your creative work
We are The Norm, a band formed in 2023, and we write and perform both original songs and cover songs. We've played in several Battle of the Bands competitions — winning a few — as well as performing at Parramatta Lanes Festival and, more recently, Youth Fest in Summer Hill. We mostly cover pop songs (Billie Eilish, Sabrina Carpenter, Tame Impala), but we also venture into more classic rock vibe songs (Paramore, Kings of Leon, Foo Fighters). Our originals are mainly about stories that many people can relate to as they are left up to personal interpretation and connection.
Where can we find out more about your work and get in touch?
We can be found on TikTok and Instagram, along with our first original demo on Soundcloud. We post updates and gig notices on our socials as well as videos form past gigs. You can reach us for gigs through our socials and all originals can be found on Soundcloud! You can additionally reach out to us through our email as below:
What’s your favourite part of working as an artist/creative?
Our favourite part of being musicians is the freedom to express ourselves and connect with others through the things we play. Music brings people together, tells stories, and creates moments that stay with you even after the song ends. We love to meet new people through the music community and travelling all over Sydney for our gigs.
What has been the highlight?
A definite highlight was performing at the ICC Sydney in front of thousands of people. We got this opportunity through our school, and it was just amazing. Seeing people smile and hearing people sing along and cheer/engage with our performance was so rewarding because it showed that music isn’t just about performing, it’s so much bigger. It’s a way of connecting with people and spreading love and joy and the feeling of being able to deliver that to people was just awesome.
What creative project are you working on at the moment?
We are working on a new song. We already have a demo of our song called “Frontline” out on Soundcloud. However, this new song is a completely different vibe to “Frontline”. It is more in the rock genre and has pop melodies with punk beats.
Who or what inspires you?
The world is just an inspirational place, things happen all the time and you can choose to tune in or tune out to them. The more you tune in the more you hear, and the more you hear, the more you're inspired.
