For the latest project update please see Latest Updates below.

Last year the City of Ryde asked for your input, views and thoughts on how Field of Mars Reserve can be managed, protected and improved now and into the future.

Based on your feedback we have created a draft Masterplan for the Field of Mars Reserve. We are also developing a draft Plan of Management.

The draft Masterplan includes improvements to the walking track network, signage, accessible picnic area and a range of measures to protect and enhance the natural area (bushland).

The draft Action Lists, a part of the Plan of Management, have also been created. This document outlines a variety of management actions that will guide the effective and efficient management the Field of Mars Reserve over a ten-year period.

We would like to hear your feedback on the draft Masterplan and draft Plan of Management - Action Lists for Field of Mars Reserve.

WHAT IS THE FIELD OF MARS RESERVE?

Located in East Ryde, the Field of Mars Reserve is the largest remnant bushland reserve under the care, control and management of the City of Ryde covering approximately 50 hectares. This protected Wildlife Refuge includes natural area (bushland), sections of Buffalo and Strangers Creeks, walking tracks, Visitors Centre/amenities building, Environmental Education Centre, picnic area and car park. The Reserve contains several endangered ecological communities and threatened species and provides significant habitat for native birds and animals.

WHY IS A MASTERPLAN NEEDED?

The Masterplan for Field of Mars Reserve will identify how the Reserve can be protected, upgraded and improved over the next 20 years.

WHY IS A PLAN OF MANAGEMENT NEEDED?

The Plan of Management for Field of Mars Reserve will identify objectives and targets and propose strategies to protect and guide the future maintenance and management of this Reserve, in accordance with the Local Government Act 1993Crown Land Management Act 2016 and National Parks & Wildlife Act 1974.

The full draft Plan of Management will go on public exhibition later this year, pending the necessary Council and Minister approvals.
