In 2021, the City of Ryde undertook the ‘Protecting Trees With Hollows’ project at the Glades Bay Road Reserve at the end of Ross Street. Three years on, we are seeking community feedback on this project which has protected native plants, native animals, and their habitat, whilst still providing recreation opportunities for the local community.

What did the Protecting Trees with Hollows project involve?

In 2021, as part of City of Ryde’s commitment to protecting and enhancing the natural environment, Council undertook the Protecting Trees with Hollows project at the Glades Bay Road Reserve at Ross Street.

The project included the installation of 1.5m high chainwire fencing, planting of native groundcovers and shrubs that grow to 2m high, installation of bird perches, signage explaining the importance of tree hollows, and closure of a set of steps. The work helped to improve the habitat for native wildlife and complemented work undertaken by community volunteers in the Ross Street Bushcare group since the early 2000’s.
