As part of the NSW Disability Inclusion Act 2014, all councils are required to update their Disability Inclusion Action Plan (DIAP) every four years. The City of Ryde would like your input in updating our local DIAP.

The DIAP is a commitment from Council that people with disability are welcomed, accepted and respected in our community. This plan identifies actions which Council can undertake to assist people with disability to participate more fully in community life. The plan and the actions within it are integrated annually into Council’s core business and into Council’s Delivery Program and Operational Plan over a four year period.

This year, the City of Ryde will be updating its DIAP and reviewing the four key areas that have been nominated by people with disability as being of primary importance in creating an inclusive community:

  • Developing positive community attitudes and behaviours
  • Creating liveable communities
  • Supporting access to meaningful employment
  • Improving access to services through better systems and processes
How You Can Get Involved

Council invites people living with disability, their carers, family members, friends and the general community to provide input into the plan.

  • We will be running an online community survey through October to 15 November 2021, where all members of the City of Ryde community will be able to have their say about disability inclusion.
  • We will be holding online focus groups in October and November for people with disability, their carers and their families. Groups will also be held for disability service providers.
  • One on one conversations can be organised if you are not comfortable in a group situation or need extra support.
  • Meeting in a Box Toolkit has been designed for organisations to use when consulting with their members to assist Council in gathering information that can shape the new DIAP. It contains tools to support organisations to consult with people with disabilities, their families and carers and feed that information back to Council. Please contact Council to receive the Meeting in a Box Toolkit.

Council has engaged ARTD Consultants to assist us with the consultations and in the updating of the plan.
