NOTICE: On the 14 May 2018, the Minister for Planning responded to Council’s concerns regarding overdevelopment in the City of Ryde, in particular, instruction was to be provided to relevant planning authorities that new planning proposals for residential developments in the City of Ryde would not be assessed until such time as an appropriate strategy was in place to ensure local infrastructure (schools, open space, transport, and community facilities), is sufficient to support any increase in population arising from additional residential development.
To implement the instruction the Greater Sydney Commission on the 6 June 2018 recommended that Council resolved not to accept any new planning proposals involving a residential use until the earlier of 1 July 2020 or the completion of the new city-wide housing and infrastructure strategy through the LEP review process.

At its meeting on Tuesday 26 June 2018, Council resolved the following:
(a) That Council, as the planning proposal authority for the Ryde LGA, resolves not to accept any new planning proposals involving a residential use as per Minister’s initiative, until the earlier of 1 July 2020 or the completion of the new city-wide housing and infrastructure strategy through the LEP review process.
(b) That Council writes to the Minister for Planning, the Hon. Anthony Roberts, seeking an amendment to the state policy for rezoning reviews to exclude its operation for Ryde LGA in respect of new residential planning proposals until 1 July 2020 or completion of the new city-wide housing and infrastructure strategy through the LEP review process.
For more information please see the Council Meeting Minutes.

Proposing to rezone land or change development standards and controls (e.g. amending the building height and floor space ratio controls, listing or delisting heritage items, etc.) involves a

formal planning process to prepare or amend the Ryde Local Environmental Plan 2014 (RLEP), in accordance with the Environmental Planning and Assessment Act 1979.

This process is further explained in the Information Sheet and Stage guidelines below to assist proponents looking at proposing amendments to the RLEP.

Other relevant State and Council reference documents are also provided to assist proponents in preparing  a Planning Proposal package.
