I’m pleased to report that at Council’s 25 August 2026 Ordinary Meeting we resolved to enter into a 50-year lease agreement with Schools Infrastructure NSW for Thistle Park, which is situated on the former site of Meadowbank Public School. This is a fantastic outcome for our community, particularly those living in the rapidly growing Meadowbank area, as it ends the uncertainty surrounding the future of this much-needed new 9,000sqm of public open space. As well as conducting ongoing upkeep and maintenance, Council will be developing a long-term strategy for Thistle Park in consultation with the community to identify the infrastructure that will be required there over the next 10 years. With that in mind, suitable sources of funds will be identified to enable a Masterplan process to begin in 2027, including the exploration of any available State and Federal grants. As you know, one of my key priorities as Mayor is to ensure our provision of open space keeps pace with the exponential density and population growth happening across our City. This goes down as a great community win.
